Antique 1890s Gibson Girl Full Slip Very Shapely with Embroidery & Lace 30 Bust

This stunning authentic Gibson Girl full slip is perfectly shaped to the body, with a long series of tiny mother of pearl buttons down the back and hand stitched button holes. This sleeveless long slip has an exquisite ruffle of embroidered trim with Appenzell style tiny flowers, and the bodice has a front V shaped panel of white embroidery and eyelet. At bottom there is a deep panel of lightweight cotton featuring embroidered grapes and eyelet lace. The sole flaw to this exceptional full slip is a small hole in the cotton near where the bottom panel meets the top. It can easily be mended or have a tiny patch applied. The rest of this slip is strong and sound, and the measurements of bust and waist are absolute with no extra give. Measures 30 bust and 26 waist, 42 hips and length of 53 inches. Just Gorgeous with OUTSTANDING SLEEVES! Bishop Sleeve -Leg-A-Mutton Sleeve Top/Waist – FULL CHANTILLY LACE OVER SILK! Fabrics in the beautiful garment include: chantilly lace; a fine black silk; a sturdier, medium weight faille type black silk; silk (?) netting, velvet ribbon trim and an applied lace. The boned bodice is intricately constructed and hand made by a master costumer! a black silk interior is fully covered by Chantilly lace that hangs loosely over the front. But…it is the sleeves that MAKE this top. I’ve never seen such intricate detail or so many elements! These sleeves are the silk backed/lace combo for a 14 inch length ..but then an additional 13 inch sleeve “wrist extensions” were added that are beautifully made from silk netting, trimmed in velvet and finished then with another accent lace! They tie with velvet small ribbons Please review the pictures SIZE: Very Small. It measures a 12′ shoulder, 24′ waist and about 30′ bust. CONDITION: This beauty has very few flaws. There appears to be some very slight age toning around the neckline and perhaps? on the wrist velvet lace. If carefully inspected several small separations can be found in the lace that are both hard to find or see with the black silk backing. Overall in wonderful condition for both the materials and age. CARE: This garment is not brittle, however, please note that antique silks are extremely delicate and any rough handling could create damage. Garment should be gently re-shaped and perhaps stuffed for a while with either 100% white cotton fabric or acid-free tissue after storage/shipping. Acquired in a true Victorian/Edwardian estate and guaranteed of the period. For your reference please see the last picture of watered silk ribbon found in with other textiles and wound on part of a 1873 bank advertising card. Antique 1890s Bodice Jacket Victorian High Neck Black Silk Ivory Lace Boned 30″B

Very stylish Victorian bodice jacket recalls the Gibson Girl aesthetic, with a high neck and high waisted blouson or pigeon breasted form, as well as wonderful dressmaking details. There is a black netting overlaying the silk faille with little silk baubles hanging all over it, black lace trim on the cuffs with tiny silk buttons to close, black lace trim on the dagged-edge wide collar at back which also overlays the shoulders, and a lace ruffle along the high neck piece which wraps around to close in back. Fully boned and with a buckram strip at high waist with large hooks on it for securing a skirt over it. Measures 30 Bust and 24 waist with 15 inch length. Someone has affixed a vintage silk rose to the jacket which, while romantic looking, is not quite to period but I wasn’t sure how to remove it without damaging the jacket which is in VERY good condition other than a hidden one inch tear to the interior silk where the hooks and eyes are.I cannot accept returns on antique items so please ask any questions prior to purchase and view all photos as well as reading the complete description, thanks.
