Ceil Chapman Dress VTG 60s Metallic Silk Aurora Borealis Prong Set Rhinestone L Touch Photos to Enlarge –> Description Feast your eyes on this magnificent beauty. Couture quality craftsmanship abounds! Aurora Borealis crystal rhinestones are intermixed with marquis shaped diamonds, pearls, and glass bugle beads. All are large, faceted, and prong set in a metallic gold an silver trim. The opulent embellishments are at waist, collar, and carry around to the back. Hidden zipper in back. The thick satin feels like a silk blend. Best described as a smooth polished shantung silk. A gold metallic thread is discreetly woven in. This layer is entirely interfaced with chiffon. Dress is fully lined in 100% silk. That is three full layers. The combination makes the dress somewhat stiff and it stands at attention. All of this while still feeling silky smooth and soft. The dress at first glance looks pristine but on close inspection I found: A few pulls caused by dress being folded and prong set rhinestones “grabbing” fabric. We clipped the most obvious, but it could still use a little more work. Thankfully the weave of the fabric conceals these nicely. A few watermarks left by our spot treatment. There were a few very faint tea stained areas. We used gonzo to remove and it left water marks on the silk. Easily remedied by a quick trip to the dry cleaner. A $50 discount has been given to cover these costs. Issues mentioned for accuracy only. The dress is divine and looks to have been worn once (if ever). There is no discoloration in the underarm area, not even a slight spot. This leads me to believe that this was never worn or for a very short time. The interior silk lining is just too pristine. The dress is clean and fresh. This dress is very close to be perfect, but does have some age related issues, that I assume, a collector would expect to see in a dress from this age.
